Commercial Construction - Oversight

The Challenge

At a commercial construction job site, workers for multiple subcontractors are coming and going each day throughout the day. The primary contractor is presented with invoices at the end of the month from each of these subcontractors. Although each worker is required to “sign-in” at the foreman’s trailer, those daily logs are paper and rarely reconciled with the invoices received.

The contractor's challenges were:

  • To validate that the charges of the subcontractors’ invoices
  • To account for all workers on site each minute of the work day
  • In the event of an emergency, provide first responders with accurate location information about potentially affected people

Sparrow's Solution

  • Replace the existing sign in sheet with a Sparrow QR Code marker for the job site. Add Sparrow QR Code “Station” markers to each floor of the building under construction.
  • When new workers arrive at the Job Site marker, the foreman has them download a free QR Reader app for their smartphones and are registered as Sparrow “Viewers.”
  • Subcontractors and workers are required to scan the Job Site marker when they arrive and when they leave to “sign in” and “sign out”.
  • Subcontractors and workers are required to scan Station marker on each floor when they arrive at that floor or area.

ROI & Benefits

  • Each scan of a Sparrow QR Code marker is logged in real-time. The amount of time that subcontractor workers are on-site can be validated against the invoices received.
  • Each scan of a Sparrow QR Code marker is logged in real-time. At any time, the contractor can view a report that shows which floor which workers last arrived at and who is where at any given moment.
  • Up to the moment reports are exportable and printable; in the event of an emergency, first responders can be provided with those reports.
  • After construction is complete, the contractor can determine which subcontractors’ estimates were on-target and which were not, assisting the contractor with overall job cost estimations and subcontractor vendor selection for future projects.
